Description
Bronze and Marble
This self-portrait bust was created in Ukraine during the first days of pandemic. I gathered the mirrors from my apartment, sat alone and didn’t want to look. Beginning felt painful—examining my own features and flaws, replicating them in clay. But as I worked, it shifted. What started as scrutiny became compassion, and those imperfections became markers of my identity and my life experience.
The bust is mounted above a bronze medallion – a gift from my sculpting instructor Serhii – featuring cameos of Greek gods. They were imperfect and unapologetic, and I am imperfect too.
