Description
Bronze and Marble
Inspired by Hemingway’s classic, this sculpture captures the old man motionless, drowning in awe. He sits in his small boat, worn but steady, while the marlin bursts upward, its body arched in defiance. The man is humbled by the fish, his proudest achievement. Their eyes are locked on one another, they are tied to one another. One is fighting to survive, the other fighting to prove he’s still alive.
The patina brings out the contrast between the man’s weathered skin and the marlin’s sleek body, while the marble base evokes the churning sea.
